After the end of World War II, millions of tons of munitions were dumped in the world’s oceans that endanger the environment and human safety. In sea water these remnants of wars including chemical weapons, break open over time and release their toxic content into the sea. There are numerous known dumping sites in the Baltic and North Sea. The contamination risk posed by each site is currently hard to predict. Together with north.io GmbH we are working on a solution. A network of autonomous buoys that can detect and report changes in microscopic concentrations of TNT and other chemicals compounds in the water column in real time.
